Teddi moved to North Carolina from Texas in 1997 when her husband retired. At that time I had no idea I was going to find the medium I was meant to work with, pine needles, who would have thought it?
As a child I heard about pine needle baskets but had no idea how they were made or what one would look like. However, the idea fascinated me. The thought stayed tucked away in my mind for many years. Then one day I saw a class on pine needle basketry offered locally. I signed up as fast as I could and took the class to learn the basics, from a wonderfully gifted and patient teacher.
That was several years ago and now my baskets are sold in several Galleries, as well as selected juried shows during the year. The NC Museum of History in Raleigh bought about a dozen for their gift shop. Many of my baskets are purchased as gifts and quite a few by collectors. I am also a member of the Albemarle Craftsman's League.
Some of my baskets have been awarded first, second, third and honorable mention at several art shows and fairs.
My pine needle baskets are made from the needles of the Long Leaf Pine Tree. I harvest them in the fall and prepare them for use. I incorporate many different pieces from nature, such as shells, acorns, mini pine cones, seed pods and anything else that appeals to me into my baskets.
Each of my baskets is signed with a treefrog. The treefrog was selected as my logo because simply seeing one makes me happy.
All of my baskets are entirely hand made and no two will ever be totally alike.
